The success of the junior academy over recent years has led to an increasing flow of juniors getting to the U15 level and then having nowwhere to play. Some have successfully transitioned into senior cricket, but with two well established teams at that level and increasing numbers, it can lead to players moving to another club, or giving up the game.
For 2025 therefore, the club has decided to enter a 3rd team into the Cherwell League to provide a bridge for these players to move from junior to senior cricket. It's a big undertaking for the club in terms of our committment to the league and the administration involved, not to mention the additional work we have taken on at West Wycombe CC where the 3s will play their league matches. It was felt however that this is the next step in the evolution and development of what is already a superb club.
It's a league team we are putting out, so of course we would like to win as often as possible, but this will not be the principal objective of this side. We will do our level best to make it a day out for everyone that is playing, so everyone gets a bat (where that is possible), those who are bowlers all get a chance to bowl, and it won't be exclusively U15s, there will always be a smattering of more experienced players to help out, advise and support.
Being U15 does not in any way restrict you to the 3s though. The club's view is that if you're good enough, you're old enough (subject to the ECB regs) and last year we had an U14 become a regular pick in the 1s.
Things it's good to know
- Games start at 1pm (earlier in the 1s) but theres always a bit to do, so we need you there by 12.15
- You'll need white trousers (we'll give you a shirt)
- Spikes are advisable
- Finish times are hard to be precise on, but no later than 7pm
- Bring your own kit if you have it (white pads only please). If you don't. we have some
- Don't expect to dash off with the fall of the last wicket. There's always a bit to do at home games (20 mins)
